AEF Supports Multilingual Readers

Thanks to the valuable insights brought forward by ACSC's dedicated multilingual learner (ML) teachers, Avon Education Foundation has provided funding to purchase multilingual reading materials for all Avon school libraries.

The requests made through the 2023-24 Helping Hands Grant application process highlighted that there is a critical need for resources that support our diverse student population, and we are thrilled to make this vision a reality.

Makenzie Cerny, Katy Vetter, Jessica Belcher, Elizabeth Camacho, Breann Ruiz, and Elizabeth Mercado-Santillan brought this need to light and this grant will enhance reading and learning opportunities for our growing population of ML students. Utilizing school libraries to house these materials made sense as it allows easy access for both teachers and students to locate and utilize these books. ACSC Media Specialists, under the direction of Kristen Nicoson, worked last spring to create a list that represents our diverse student population.

Soon these materials will be in circulation to help foster a love of reading for all.
